Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is all set to release on OTT Platform Netflix on 12 August. Which Starring Janhvi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Angad Bedi, Manav Vij and Ayesha Raza Mishra among others,
Director Sharan Sharma is inspired by the real-life story of Gunjan Saxena, who is India’s first female Air Force officer to fly in a combat zone during the 1999 Kargil War. In a new clip released by Netflix, we hear Gunjan, Janhvi, Pankaj and Sharan talking about the making of Gunjan Saxena’s biopic.
The film’s trailer focused on the gender discrimination that Gunjan Saxena had to face during her early days at the Indian Air Force. This video opens with Gunjan talking about the experience of flying and shares that once you are in the pilot’s seat, “the machine will not know whether a man is flying it, or a woman is flying it.”
The film was scheduled to release theatrically on March 13. However, that release postponed to 24 April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was then pulled from the schedule. Netflix (OTT Platform) acquired distribution rights to the film and on 9 June 2020 Netflix released a teaser video introducing Gunjan Saxena and announcing that the film will be streamed the film worldwide on 12 August 2020 on Netflix.
One week before Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’s release, Janhvi shared a video titled “becoming Gunju”, which is a compilation of several behind-the-scene moments from the film during the shooting on set. In the biopic, Janhvi Kapoor features as Indian Air Force officer Gunjan Saxena, who was India’s first woman combat aviator to be commissioned into the war zone during the Kargil War. Gunjan Saxena also stars in Janhvi Kapoor’s BTS video and talks about Janhvi’s dedication towards portraying her on screen and her disbelief over a film being made on her life and experiences.
In this video Janhvi, who introduces Gunjan Saxena as the “first female rescue pilot who went to war”, reveals the one question that the former Air Force officer asked her on the film’s set.
Janvi Kapoor said in her recent interview : “My expectations from myself are definitely higher, I knew what I had to work on after my first film and I have tried to push myself to do more and be more. I have given this my all and I hope I have done justice to the character. Frankly even if we were having a theatrical release, I would not be stressed about this film, because the process itself was so fruitful. I am extremely happy because of the reach and also when I look at the Netflix slide show, I see my face on it, right next to Ryan Gosling from First Man.”
Janvi Kapoor did find challenging during the filming was the Lucknow heat. “It was 48 degrees – but strangely, after we came back to Mumbai I missed that also,” Janvi said. “Sitting in a super air-conditioned studio I wondered I was not sweating enough and therefore not giving it my best.”
